GREAT NEWS! AFGE Local 2361 wins arbitration case concerning Reserve Technicians (ARTs) and wear of a military uniform in civilian status. This case centered on whether or not the changes to three Air Force Instructions would contradict or affect certain articles in our Labor Management Agreement. The Arbitrator ruled that the Employer violates the Agreement by unilaterally requiring ARTs employees to wear military uniforms while in civilian status performing civilian duties. We will not be required to negotiate the uniform issue until May of 2011 when our LMA is due to be renegotiated. The House has passed the 2009 Defense Authorization Bill and before doing so the House Armed Services Committee removed the language that was submitted by the Air Force that would have required Reserve Technicians to wear the uniform all the time. We want to thank the HASC for protecting the rights of Title 5 Civil Service Employees in the Air Force.
